Saw this movie on Saturday, September 25, 2004.

I saw this movie at the 2:30 showing at Redondo Cinema 3 on Saturday, September 25, 2004. Overall, I liked the movie. Though there was a certain lack of originality present in the plot, the special effects, the inclusion of Egyptian mythology, and Halle Barry's performance made a nice combination for a good film. The following elaborates on these points.
The bounding of Catwoman from one side of a building to the next is very impressive. It added to the adrenaline rush of seeing Catwoman in action. It is difficult to present in words; you will just have to see the movie yourself.
In the movie, Halle Barry's character sees this lady who appears to be a mystic. It presented an allusion to the ancient story of the elders of Egypt. They believed strongly in the power of cats and revered them with this power. Many of their Gods, such as Ra, the Sun God, bore images of cats directly, or had shapes in comparison to them. My friends thought that the allusion was poorly done, but I do not agree.
Halle Barry did a wonderful performance, I thought. Her character is a naïve, young painter who is insecure, eager to please, and uncertain about her place in this drug company. Then after she is nearly killed and bitten by cats, her insecurity goes away as fast as a thunderstorm. Similar to the Catwoman depicted in the movie Batman Returns, she is essentially reborn. She becomes a new person.
I think in this respect it shows how people can change over time. Sometimes people’s personalities change radically; other times it’s more subtle. For Catwoman, it is quite radical.
As far as I know, I am the only person in the world that liked the movie, hehe. The comments I have heard range from It was a waste of money to crap; and worst movie I have ever sen Eh. What-eva. :-P I totally plan to get this movie once I feel I can buy it. So, if you are counter-culture to movie reviewers, I recommend seeing the movie yourself. Get it on NetFlix (mailing company that mails DVDs and sends new ones once you mail back the ones you have) or get a copy on E-bay like I'm going to. ;-)
